The Euro Jackpot is one of the major lottery games played across Europe. Whilst many of the larger European nations offer the Euro Millions, the Euro Jackpot game is played amongst many countries which don’t compete in that lottery.
This lottery (also sometimes spelt as EuroJackpot), was first launched in 2012, and is played in Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Like the Euro Millions game, tickets cost €2 per line for this jackpot game. The set-up is also similar to that lottery, too, with the objective being to match 5 winning numbers, as well as two bonus balls to win the jackpot. This European lottery is played every Friday and offers winnings more frequently than its more famous counterpart.
It is also worth noting that if the jackpot is rolled over 12 times, then on the thirteenth draw, if no player has still won, then the player who has the next highest winning ticket will scoop the jackpot. This happened in 2012, when one German player won €27.5 million by having 5 balls but only 1 bonus ball.
How to play the Euro Jackpot
Players must choose a total of 5 numbers from a total of 50. They must also pick 2 bonus balls from a total of 10. It used to be 8, but this was changed in October, 2014. Players need to have at least 2 numbers plus a bonus ball in order to win anything, and the odds of that happening are 1 in 42.
Prizes
If you manage to match 2 numbers plus 1 bonus ball, you will win your money back or up to €7. This prize is also the same for matching 1 number and 2 bonus balls. However, if you land 2 balls and 2 bonuses, you could win as much as €17, with a €16 prize being paid for 3 balls, and another €17 being paid out for 3 balls plus 1 bonus.
If a player lands 3 balls and 2 bonuses, the winnings rise to just under €50, whilst 4 balls coughs up about €130. Players will approximately €270 for landing 4 balls and a bonus, whilst landing 2 bonuses with 4 balls can see them win as much as €3,500. Matching all 5 balls will see players win €270,000, whilst €300,000 is available for winners who land 5 balls plus a bonus. If you match all 5 balls plus both bonuses, you will win the jackpot, which is guaranteed to be worth at least €15 million.
