What would you spend your money on, if you won the lottery? It is a question that we have surely all asked ourselves. Do you know already? The chances are, that you’d probably spend the money on the same things the vast majority of us would. You might tell yourself that you’d put it all in a high-interest bank account, but would you really?
The usual suspects
Most lottery winners spend their loot on the usual suspects. Cars, houses, flashy objects; in short, material things. If you’re a material guy or girl, then you’re likely to buy yourself a flash new motor, perhaps that luxury mansion you’ve always dreamed of having. The kind of house that has a forest behind it. No? Then how about a brand television, a holiday in the sun, or perhaps starting up your own business? These two are all things that people who have won the lottery have gone on to purchase with their newfound wealth. Some people are even more predictable, and have gone on to buy that “yacht” big-spenders often talk about. But does everybody buy such things?
Charitable causes
Many lottery winners actually donate sizeable sums of cash to their favourite charities. Nobody could ever pick fault with that. A lot of lottery winners have a charity which means something to them, either through a personal loss or experience, or because of a moving event that has touched them in some way. In all probability, most winners won’t donate their entire cache to charity, but good portions of it may end up there.
Your money makes money
Many lottery winners also splash their cash on businesses, either snapping up local businesses or starting their own. This is an excellent way to keep yourself busy, to start up the business you’ve always wanted. Some winners invest their cash, as a way of ensuring that their new found money makes money. It is a risky business, of course, but most major lottery winners can afford to take a few risks.
Righting a few wrongs, for friends and family
Most of us would like to right a few wrongs, and one of the first things that we would do if we won the lottery, is sort out our friends and family. We’d ensure that our children are comfortable, that our parents and grandparents are alright for money, too. Some of us would even help our friends. There are drawbacks to that, though. Every person you help out financially will know that you’ve won the lottery, and if word gets around, everybody will come knocking, expecting a favour. It’s sad, but true. Would you announce your windfall to anyone at all? Many don’t.
Retirement
In all probability, most of us wouldn’t work again. Some lottery winners say that their life won’t change, and that they’ll be back in the office on Monday. Would they really, though? Wouldn’t you just check out of your job, put your feet up and life off the interest for the rest of your life. The vast majority of us, would.
Ultimately, some people may blow their winnings. Others may be shrewder, and others will just set themselves up in luxury for the remainder of their days. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. They’ve won the lottery, and they are entitled to do with it what they will. The same, though, is true if you’re the next big lottery winner. Think about it…
