Two Australians have become overnight millionaires, following the recent Saturday Night Lotto superdraw. The jackpot was worth $20 million (AUD) in total, with both winners scooping a million a piece.
Winning tickets were bought from stores in both the Melville Newspower shop in Bicton, and the Myaree Newsextra shop. The owner of the second shop could not believe that both tickets came from the shops which are practically neighbours. More baffling to the shop owner was that both shops churned out the only Division 1 winning tickets in the state.
According to an interview he gave – Mr Wayne Martinovich stated that it had been almost a year since there had last been a major Division 1 winner in the area, and that there were expecting another one.
So far, the identities of either of the two newly made millionaires has not been disclosed, but Mr Martinovich is hoping that it is one of his regulars who has scooped the prize. It is likely that the winners will want to remain out of the limelight for as long as possible, as is often the case with many lottery winners who pocket substantial sums of cash. Even these big wins are some way off the total recorded jackpot win, though, which stands at $47.9 million. This win was bagged in April 2008, and it too was won during one of the roughly seven annual Superdraw games.
The standard Saturday Lotto is consistently ranked one of the top ten lotteries in the world, and features a total of 6 prize categories, with all winnings being issued tax free. Superdraw games tend to have jackpots which are worth between $20 million and $30 million, but aren’t as commonly offered during the year. Generally speaking, in the standard draws the top prize is a guaranteed one million Australian dollars, although now the total pot is worth $4 million in all. The next drawing of this popular Australian lottery game is on Saturday, November 7.
