There were a few surprises in several major lotteries this week, with players who you may not necessarily have backed to win the lottery, scooping big cash prizes. Big wins in Greece, Canada, and the Philippines have been making headlines their respective countries. Here’s a weekly review of who won what.
In Patra, Greece, one lucky player has finally crushed the lotto fever that was sweeping across the country, after pocketing the €15.5 million OPAP Joker lottery game. There had been successive roll-overs in the lottery, but that all came to an end when the player landed his win with the numbers 10, 27, 28, 31, and 38, alongside the Joker Number of 3. Five runner-up prizes were also paid out to the tune of just over €195,000 a pop.
Over in Canada, one player scooped an impressive CAD$14.5m in Saturday’s Lotto 6-49 draw. The winner hails from Alberta, although precious little else is known about him or her at this moment in time. The next draw (on Wednesday December 16) will see the prize dip to just $5 million following the win. The previous win on this lotto came at the end of November, when one lucky player from Quebec scooped a $20 million prize.
Lastly, over in the Philippines, a winning ticket has been declared for a jackpot worth around P212,501,452. This works out at roughly £2.9m, when you convert the Pesos. The Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office Super Lotto 6/49 Jackpot was paid out on the following numbers: 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, and 33. The Ultra Lotto 6/58 Jackpot remains unwon and stands at P50 million. The winning numbers for that prize were 8, 9, 31, 33, 50, and 52, although as we’ve said, no winners for that Philippine lotto jackpot have been reported yet.
