Romania’s national lottery can go by one of several names. To most people, it is simply known as the 6/49. However, Romani’s lottery game can also be called the Loteria Română. Although there are spin-off games, they don’t quite have the excitement that the original Romanian lottery game does.
The 6/49 takes its name from the fact that a total of six numbers are drawn from a pot of 49. Several special lotteries are also held throughout the year, which may be worth taking a look at. Originally, the Romanian lottery began as a charity organisation, although in recent years, it has become a major gambling event. The modern 6/49 game occurs on Thursdays and Sundays and adopts standard lottery rules. Some of the proceeds from sales do still go to charitable causes, though.
How to play the 6/49 Lotto
As we’ve previously mentioned, the player must pick a total of 6 balls on their ticket. A total of 49 numbers are used in the draw, with no bonus balls being used. Players must guess all 6 numbers correctly, in order to win the jackpot.
Prizes
There are four prize divisions in the Loteria Română. The lowest prize division is for just 3 balls. If a player matches three numbers on their ticket, they could walk away with 30 lei. A far more substantial prize of around about 440 lei is available for players matching 4 balls. Match 5 out of 6 balls, and you’ll walk away with a significantly larger 115,000 lei. If you are fortunate enough to land all 6 numbers, then you will win the jackpot, which is often around about the 10 million lei mark.

And finally…
The Romanian people are cute superstitious when it comes to numbers in lotteries. Whilst most people in Europe consider 13 to be a rather unlucky number; statistically, it is the most commonly drawn number in the Romanian lottery. Other hot numbers include 12, 29, 33, 36 and 48. Generally speaking, stats have also shown that 51% of all the numbers drawn in the Romanian 6/49, tend to be odd numbers. Make of that, what you will. Odds are fair in the Romanian lotto, so if you want a lottery game which gives you a reasonable chance of success, this one will do nicely.
