Several big jackpot wins are being celebrated this week, following triumphant wins in Australia, and over in the United States.
In Perth, Australia, it was the turn of a very young couple to scoop a massive $23.3 million AUD jackpot in the Australia Saturday Lotto. They took part in the massive $70m Powerball jackpot lotto game on Saturday, with the winning ticket being bought in Gateways News and Lottery Centre, in Success. According to reports in the papers, even the newsagents are getting in on the act, celebrating the win with a bottle of champagne.
There were three other winners in Western Australia over the weekend, who all pocketed Division One prizes. Some of those tickets were bought in the Kalbarri News and Gift Centre, with the other being bought via Lotterywest Play Online. Both of the tickets are thought to be worth just shy of $350,000 each.
Over in the United States, it was an elderly grandmother who managed to scoop a massive jackpot prize. The woman bagged $1 million on a lottery scratch card. What’s so special about that? Well, believe it or not – this story is magical. 20 years earlier, the woman had bought another scratch card, and won another $1 million – from the same shop!
The winner – Constance Carpenito – said that if you are able to win a million twice, you have to be lucky. The scratch card came from the Massachusetts State Lottery, which offers a $10,000,000 prize.
This win precedes the other $1 million she won in 1996 on another scratch card, but even that win came just a month and a half after bagged $20,000 on the same game. Rather than paying tax on the installments, the winner chose to claim a cash prize of just $650,000 in one lump-sum, with the store getting a $10,000 prize just for selling the lucky scratch card.
Two big lottery winners from across the globe are celebrating this week, and quite right, too. Maybe next time, it could be you?
